Satellite was designed by Mathieu Matégot Rigitulle in 1953, and the name of the lamp was given by Matégot as a nod and tribute to the scientific progress of France in the years after World War II.

The technique and material, invented by Matégot himself, make it possible to bend and fold the metal sheet, thus achieving a relaxed and sculptural effect.
