Egg™ lounge chair

Designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1958 for the lobby and reception areas of the iconic SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, the Egg™ armchair (Model 3316) by Fritz Hansen is a true masterpiece of Scandinavian design and a globally recognised icon.

Amidst the rigorous geometric precision of the hotel’s architecture, Jacobsen conceived the Egg™ armchair as an organic and welcoming contrast: a way of sculpting ‘a space within a space’ that would offer a haven of calm and intimacy.

Jacobsen began shaping the famous sculptural shell in his garage at home using wire and plaster, achieving an unforgettable curved silhouette that envelops the body.

Constructed with a moulded CombiPUR shell reinforced with fibreglass and a plush layer of polyurethane foam, the armchair features a 4-spoke swivel base and a tilt-recline mechanism adjustable to the user’s weight.

Its refined balance of comfort, architectural presence and distinction makes it the centrepiece of any living room, lounge area or executive office.

Selection of Available Fabrics and Leathers:

Exclusive Fritz Hansen Leathers

  • Essential Leather (Cat. 3): Semi-corrected, lightly pigmented cowhide with a uniform grain. It offers excellent durability, high resistance to daily wear and tear, and is easy to maintain, whilst retaining a wonderfully soft feel.
  • Natural Leather (Cat. 5): 100% natural pure aniline leather without a synthetic protective coating. It reveals the leather’s natural markings and texture, offering an ultra-soft feel and superior breathability that develops an elegant patina over time.

High-End Fabric Collection

  • Acca: Contemporary technical fabric with a subtle appearance and a highly wear-resistant finish. (Composition: 85% virgin wool, 15% polyamide).
  • Clay (Kvadrat): A bouclé fabric rich in tactile texture that combines natural fibres for a sculptural presence. (Composition: 76% linen, 21% cotton, 3% polyester).
  • Fame (Gabriel): A fine combed wool fabric with a firm, durable texture and excellent elasticity. (Composition: 95% New Zealand wool, 5% polyamide).
  • Hallingdal 65 (Kvadrat): The iconic textile designed by Nanna Ditzel in 1965. It combines the warmth of wool with the flexibility of jute. (Composition: 70% virgin wool, 30% viscose).
  • Karakorum (Dedar): A wool and viscose bouclé inspired by astrakhan fur, extremely soft and with a luxurious feel. (Composition: 42% wool, 33% viscose, 24% cotton, 1% polyamide).
  • Vidar (Kvadrat / Raf Simons): A satin weave fabric with dense looped yarn that creates a deeply textured surface. (Composition: 94% virgin wool, 6% nylon).
  • Voulez-Vous: An elegant velour with a sumptuous feel and a sophisticated play of light. (Composition: 100% cotton / blend of fine fibres).
