Designed by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni in 1962 for Flos, Toio Led is a true icon of industrial design that perfectly embodies the Castiglioni brothers’ famous ready-made philosophy.
Its ingenious structure reimagines everyday objects: the light source is inspired by a car headlamp, the power cable is routed through genuine fishing-rod guides and gathered into a nautical cleat. Its name, in fact, is a playful nod to the English word toy.
This floor lamp emits a powerful indirect light projected from its reflective headlight. Mounted on a hexagonal nickel-plated brass arm that is telescopically height-adjustable, it rests on a solid architectural base of angle iron and shaped steel that openly houses the system’s transformer.
Updated with energy-efficient LED technology whilst remaining faithful to the original award-winning design—which forms part of the permanent collection at MoMA in New York—the Toio LED incorporates an electronic dimmer in the cable to adjust the light intensity with absolute precision. It is available in a range of colours to suit any interior design style.
