The 1972 pendant lamp, designed by the legendary Finnish master Paavo Tynell for GUBI, stands out for its handcrafted conical bamboo shade. The bamboo slats are hand-sewn to form a delicate pleated tapestry which is manually secured to the wire frame, incorporating an inner linen lining that softens the light.

This design directs the light directly towards the base whilst casting a diffused glow upwards and around the shade through the bamboo weave. The characteristic brass details, a hallmark of Tynell’s work, lend an elegant and timeless air that perfectly complements the natural warmth of the wood. Beneath the bulb, a fabric diffuser modulates the light, finished at the base by a decorative brass element that adds character and nuances the piece’s play of light.
