Designed by Achille Castiglioni in 1984 for Flos, the Stylos floor lamp transforms a vertical column into a veritable totem of light and sculptural presence.

Beneath an apparent geometric simplicity, Castiglioni conceived an iconic piece in which every detail serves a carefully considered function, applying his famous ‘less is more’ philosophy to create versatile lighting using minimal elements.

Its structure consists of a circular base made of heavy steel with a silver powder-coated finish — designed to prevent it from tipping over — from which rises an elegant cylindrical diffuser column made of extruded polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) with an opal finish. The lamp houses two independent light sources situated at either end of the cylinder: the lower one emits a diffused glow that gently illuminates the entire transparent body, whilst the upper one projects a powerful indirect beam towards the ceiling.

Thanks to the dual foot switch located on the power cable, the two light sources can be switched on independently or simultaneously, allowing the atmosphere of the space to be adjusted according to the needs of the moment.
