HOMES FOR OUR TIME VOL.3
HOMES FOR OUR TIME VOL.3
Philip Jodidio examines what's behind the most innovative housing to illustrate the evolution of today's global architecture, from Samira Rathod's Concrete Experiment House in India to Tetro's Açucena House in Brazil, which molds to the natural terrain on which it is built.
The houses featured in this book may be the first generation of housing to take advantage of the versatility of computer applications, but this use of technology has not diminished their variety and originality one iota. In Italy, Mario Cucinella built TECLA - Technology and Clay, a 3D printed house constructed entirely from raw earth. This unique building, which was printed in 200 hours with 60 cubic meters of natural materials, exemplifies an architectural approach that pursues both low cost and environmental responsibility. In Hyderabad, India, Kanan Modi designed his Garden House not only to diffuse and reduce heat inside the building, but also to bring the beauty of nature indoors, two essential goals in the face of rising temperatures and increasing urbanization.
These visionary buildings were designed by harnessing technological advances such as video conferencing and 3D printing, encouraging inventiveness and imagination and producing sustainable, site-specific housing.
