The Maija table lamp by Santa & Cole, designed in 1955 by the renowned Finnish designer Ilmari Tapiovaara, conveys the characteristic atmospheric quality of light found in Baltic cities, where homes radiate their warmth from the inside out.

Tapiovaara, regarded as Finland’s first non-architect industrial designer and a keen observer of nature, conceived this piece as his only domestic lamp. Its structure evokes a tower of overlapping matt white metal discs through which light filters as if emerging from a glistening honeycomb.

Set upon elegant matt brass bases and fitted with a translucent methacrylate diffuser, the collection takes its name from the famous children’s character, Maija the Bee.

This design combines a timeless Nordic aesthetic with soft, diffused and fully adjustable ambient lighting.
