Dior by Peter Lindbergh is a tribute to the most beloved fashion photographer and his deep connection with the House of Dior.
Lindbergh photographed the brandâs greatest muses, including Marion Cotillard and Charlize Theron, and created iconic campaigns for Lady Dior and JâAdore with his unmistakable style. This book, conceived as a very special collaborative project, brings together that intimate, cinematic vision with which the photographer captured Diorâs elegance in timeless images.
The central concept is as extraordinary as it is ambitious: seventy years of Diorâs history projected against the bustling backdrop of Times Square, New York. To make this possible, Dior took an unusual step and allowed an unprecedented number of its most prized garments to leave the Paris warehouse and travel across the Atlantic. The result is electrifying: Alek Wek wears the immaculate 1947 cocktail dress amidst the urban frenzy, whilst Saskia de Brauw, Karen Elson and Amber Valletta move through crowds, scaffolding and reflections, draped in haute couture, from pieces hand-sewn by Christian Dior to more recent designs by Maria Grazia Chiuri. Lindberghâs signature monochrome and colour photographs masterfully capture the silhouettes, textures and intricacies of each garment.
Designed by his collaborator and friend Juan Gatti, this edition includes 165 previously unpublished images from a four-day shoot, an introduction by Martin Harrison and a selection of over 100 photographs of Dior creations, ranging from haute couture to ready-to-wear for men and women, originally published in magazines such as Vogue and Harperâs Bazaar. An extraordinary tribute to two pillars of fashion and photography, and to a collaboration that remains a benchmark.
