The PH 3/2 table lamp by Louis Poulsen provides soft, harmonious and comfortable lighting thanks to its system of three hand-blown white opal glass shades, which direct the light mainly downwards and reduce glare.

Designed by Poul Henningsen based on his famous three-shade system, created in 1925, this lamp reflects the almost scientific approach with which the Danish designer sought to shape exceptionally pleasant light for everyday use.

The first lamp to utilise this principle was developed in collaboration with Louis Poulsen for the 1925 Paris International Exhibition, where the so-called ‘Parisian lamp’ was awarded a gold medal. The system is based on the lituus curve to achieve an even distribution of light across the shades. The combination of the three shades, together with the diffuse reflection of the opal glass, helps to control glare and soften shadows, creating a warm and balanced atmosphere.

In the naming of the PH lamps, the numbers refer to the size of the shades. In the case of the PH 3/2 table lamp, the top shade measures approximately 30 cm and the lower shades correspond to those used in the 2/2 version.
