Blanes chair

Originally designed in 1968 by Miguel Milá under the name ‘Rombo’ chair, this piece represents a true milestone in the history of contemporary Spanish design.

In 1973, the Milá-Correa studio incorporated it into the iconic interior design of the Barcelona restaurant Il Giardinetto, a project which won the prestigious FAD Award for interior design that same year.

In this reissue by Trenat, the piece takes the name ‘Blanes’ chair in homage to the master craftsman Mr Blanes, who first crafted it in his workshop in the 1970s.

Backed by over 130 years of family expertise in working with plant-based materials, Trenat produces this gem of a chair, combining tradition with local production.

Its frame is handcrafted from curved natural rattan cane and reinforced with rush, joined using rush splints, and finished on the seat and the characteristic oval medallion on the backrest with an exquisite herringbone weave of 4 mm rattan strips. A chair with an organic, light and timeless presence that adorns dining rooms and living rooms with undeniable historical and aesthetic value.

Key features:

  • Original 1968 design by Miguel Milá, reissued by the Trenat design firm.
  • A historic piece that took centre stage in the iconic restaurant Il Giardinetto (winner of the 1973 FAD Award for interior design).
