Kube sofa Hallingdal

The Kube three-seater sofa is an eye-catching piece with cubist lines, featuring an almost brutalist-style frame that is softened by its plush cushions, arranged in a relaxed manner across the seat, backrest and armrests.

Inspired by mid-century design tradition, it combines a simple, authentic exposed timber frame with the comfort of generous upholstery, achieving a balanced contrast between the rigid and the soft, the sculptural and the cosy.

The construction of the frame is one of its most distinctive features, as it highlights the beauty of the craftsmanship in the way the pine boards are joined, creating an almost sculptural visual dynamic. The thickness of the pieces emphasises the durability of the material, which over time will develop a natural patina, lending the piece even more character.

Simon Legald thus reinterprets mid-century sofas, where the frame was left exposed and the cushions were integrated into it, bringing that aesthetic into the contemporary home without compromising on comfort.

In this version, Kube is upholstered in Kvadrat’s Hallingdal 65, an iconic and extremely durable fabric, originally designed in 1965 by Nanna Ditzel. Its blend of wool and viscose combines durability and flexibility with a rich depth of colour, as both fibres are dyed before spinning, which enhances the fabric’s texture and tone.

Key features:

  • Kube three-seater sofa, designed by Simon Legald, with an exposed wooden frame featuring a Cubist aesthetic and Brutalist touches, softened by loose, plush cushions.
  • Mid-century inspiration, with the exposed frame as an essential part of the design, striking a balance between honest construction and contemporary comfort.
  • Pine frame, with thick planks and visible joints that lend it a handcrafted character and an almost sculptural presence; it acquires a natural patina over time.
  • Cushions on the seat, backrest and armrests for a comfortable and cosy seating experience.
  • Upholstered in Kvadrat’s Hallingdal 65, an iconic fabric designed by Nanna Ditzel (1965), highly durable, with a rich texture and depth of colour.
